Cancer Research UK’s 11 Downing Street reception

In June CRUK held a reception at 11 Downing Street for some of our closest supporters to celebrate the progress we continue to make for cancer patients through transformational science, as well as the exciting future of cancer research.

Michelle Mitchell, Cancer Research UK’s CEO, welcomed everyone to the celebration and thanked the generosity of those for supporting the charity’s ability to deliver world-class research. Then the charity’s Chief Scientist, Professor KJ Patel, gave an exciting look at some of our incredible research achievements and why we are at a pivotal moment in cancer research right now with challenges that mean we continue to need all the support we can get to progress with our vital work.

Following this Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Chair of Cancer Research UK, gave his personal reflections of his association with the organisation and the impact that generous funding has had in advancing cancer research over time. The evening closed with Prof Kairbaan Hodivala-Dilke from the City of London centre and Chair of CRUK’s Research Careers Committee. Prof Hodivala-Dilke highlighted the importance of training the next generation of cancer researchers, the challenges they face, and why the charity has such a role in supporter future leaders to take forward this work.
